The Fuse 1+ 30W printer is the latest SLS (selective laser sintering) printer from Formlabs. It reportedly builds polymer parts up to two times faster than the first-generation Fuse 1, introduced two years ago. Other system upgrades include a new, more powerful laser and higher scanning speed, improved powder handling, and an optional inert-nitrogen environment.

During setup and printing, an intuitive touch UI walks the operator through every step. The touchscreen displays a livestream of the print bed, letting the user watch each new layer take shape. Viewing can be done remotely, too.

Currently, Formlabs offers four types of nylon for the machine: 11, 11 CF (carbon fiber), 12, and 12 CF. Plans call for additional materials to be available in the future.

The Additive Report focuses on the use of additive manufacturing technology in the real world of manufacturing. Today’s manufacturers are using 3D printing technology to create tools and fixtures, and some are even using AM for high-volume production work. Their stories will be covered here.
