If you thought the Black Series was the hottest member of the Mercedes-AMG GT family, then think again. The German marque has just unveiled the Track Series, and it’s a prime example of what the Affalterbach engineers can achieve when let loose.
This special edition celebrates the 55th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG, with the company founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher back in 1967. Appropriately, the Track Series will be limited to just 55 units.
Under the bonnet of this celebratory track toy is AMG’s 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine, which has been cranked up to produce 580kW of power and 850Nm of torque. All that power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels.
Controlled via a sequential Hewland HLS 6-speed racing transmission that, like the rest of the AMG GT line-up, has been installed on the rear axle and is connected by a carbon-fibre torque tube, the Track Series features adjustable four-way Bilstein dampers.
In pursuit of weight reduction, several body components have been recreated in carbon-fibre, including the bonnet, wings, and rear apron too. The result is a kerb weight of just 1,400kg, giving it a 150kg circa advantage over its Black Series sibling.
What’s not so light is the roll cage made from high-tensile steel, which has been added for safety reasons. With the addition of a five-point safety harness, customisable seat foaming and other safety equipment, the Track Series meets the latest FIA standards.
Developed solely for the track, as one might expect, owners who purchase a Track Series vehicle will receive the usual list of privileges available exclusively to Mercedes-AMG Motorsport customers.
This includes, but is not limited to, technical training, a personalised engineer supporting you during track activities, and a specialised service hotline. Pricing is set at €369,000 euros, which equates to roughly $540,000 AUD. Aussie taxes might make that higher.
