Once we have completed the second episode of the Ducati world premiere with the presentation of the Monster SP, we will turn our attention to the following events with the new Ducati 2023. The one on October 7, the fourth in the series, will titled ‘This is Racing’, which would be perfect for the launch of the new Panigale V4, which will serve as the basis for the Superbike World Championship bikes.

The current Ducati Panigale V4R meets the Euro4 emissions standard, which means that it will no longer be available on the market after January 1, 2023. If the men of Borgo Panigale want to continue participating in the Superbike World Championship , the new Bologna model will have to meet Euro5 standards. Which is a good thing, as a Euro 5-compliant prototype was spotted during testing not far from Bologna.

From the photos, it looks like this model is evolving into something similar to the recent V4 SP2. The carbon fiber aluminum rims, chassis and tank are identical.

In short, this is a top-of-the-range model and our comments naturally focus on the Panigale V4R 2019, produced in a limited edition of 500 units. The sale price of the initial homologated model must not exceed €40,000.

On this prototype, we note the presence of a semi-active suspension, as on the SP2 but not as on the old V4R, and the front brake remote control. The brake calipers appear to be Brembo GP4s, with cooling air intakes.

Öhlins forks have black, not gold tubes and have a black DLC finish. This model is also equipped with an Akrapovic exhaust and a different chain guard, visible at the end of the swingarm.

If it is a redesign of the V4R, the Desmosedici Stradale engine would be increased from 1,103 cc of the Panigale V4 SP2 to 998 cc.

The previous V4R was rated at 224 bhp at 15,250 rpm, and even 237 bhp at 15,500 rpm with the race kit. Since then, the Borgo Panigale factory has considerably improved the electronic management of the Panigale series, both in terms of electronic power management and the various assistance systems (traction control, engine brake, anti-rotation, launch, etc).
